Adaptive Mountain Bike Program
Are you one who enjoys adventure, has a curiosity to explore the natural surface trails in the Northland but may have limited mobility? If so adaptive mountain biking (a-MTB) may be just the activity for you to consider!
What is an A-MTB?
A-MTB is a mobility device that allows a variety of riders who may have limited or no function in their lower extremities and that would likely not be able to safely ride a standard 2 wheeled mountain bike.
OUR FLEET
Bowhead RX
This bike is built for performance and durability on any terrain. The RX integrates an articulating front-end with a new rear swingarm for agile handling, while its Bosch Performance CX eMTB motor and SRAM Eagle 12-speed drivetrain offer seamless assistance and a low center of gravity, tailored for every adventurer's needs.
Bowhead Rouge
This bike is built for performance and durability for any level of rider on any terrain. The Rogue is an entry level off-road handcycle that features full suspension and also sports the Bosch Performance CX eMTB motor. This model will grow with you which makes it great for a range of riders from kids (8+) to adults.
Mako Off Road Recumbent Handcycle
This is the ultimate, capable, rear wheel drive recumbent handcycle with suspension at all three wheels. The Mako was developed for riders not able to or not interested in riding in the prone position (kneeling, face down) and for rider’s wanting more suspension control.
Hammerhead Full Suspension Handscycle
This offroad handcycle is designed for a rider in the prone body position. This allows the rider to see the terrain ahead more easily, and have the advantage of body weight over the crank set for added power. The primary steering is through a single, stock, gives the rider the real mountain bike feel.
What is Northland Adaptive Recreation?
The Northland Adaptive Recreation (NAR) mission is to advocate for enhanced access to outdoor recreation for people with a disability and their families. Thus, we advocate for expanded universally accessible trail creation throughout local and regional trail systems in the Northland. With proper equipment, skilled instruction and great community partners like Harbortown Rotary, Spirit Mountain and COGGS, more is possible when it comes to expanding meaningful outdoor recreation opportunities for those who’ve traditionally not had similar access to our amazing trail system in the Northland.
